Freefalling 04:19
(VERSE 1) Cracking. Breaking. Shedding my form, spirits are born, Hearts Aching. Placating, Liminal states, my hands vibrate. It's searing, itself in to My minds eye, like crystalline. She told me, these secrets. Connected more than i'll ever know. (I hear the voice of two women, as I hurtle forwards. A breeze so sweet, caresses me,) (CHORUS) Someone set me free. I don't know who I want to be. Freefalling to my knees, This power hurts inside of me. (VERSE 2) Can I be happy? Hostile embrace, I have lost my place. Is she part of my tree? The sap, the bark, the fruit, the leaves. Why did it take so long? To tell me why I didn't belong. There's peace in my sadness. I'm still as the heavens fall over me. (An embryonic bubble nurtures me. Is this? What rebirth feels like?) (CHORUS) Someone set me free. I don't know who I want to be. Freefalling to my knees, This power hurts inside of me.

about

Spirit Sigh presents 'Dawta': a concept EP collecting songs from the audio visual performance of the same name, performed by artist animator and musician Jessica Ashman (AKA Spirit Sigh) and visual artist and drummer, Bimpe Alliu.

Combining experimental animation techniques and live musical performance, ‘Dawta’ is a journey through ideas of inherited cycles of trauma in Blackness, inspired by a history of trans-racial fostering in Ashman's own family and the work of African American science fiction author Octavia Butler.

‘Dawta' is a story of escaping the past through the imagining of an unknown future, the imagining of an unknown hope.
